Deputy Chairman P J Kurien said that if Swamy did not comply with the ruling that all documents quoted by him must be authenticated and placed on the table of the House, the rule would take its course.

A day after the VVIP chopper deal was discussed in Rajya Sabha, Congress member Anand Sharma sought to know Thursday how BJP member Subramanian Swamy got access to sensitive and confidential files of the defence ministry and investigation agencies. Sharma said Swamy had not authenticated the documents yet.

Raising the issue through a point of order, Sharma said, “During proceedings yesterday, certain sensitive MoD, CBI and ED documents were read out by an honourable member, or rather less honourable member. The House must know how a member was given access to sensitive files which he has not authenticated even now.”

“It (the ruling) has to be complied with,” Kurien said. He added that he had given a ruling Wednesday that whatever documents are quoted should be authenticated and placed on the table. “That has to be complied with,” he said.

Amid protests from Congress members, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said Swamy had authenticated and placed the documents he had quoted on the table of the House. The issue had been taken care of, he said.

Earlier, seeking to raise the issue through a point of order, Swamy called for day-to-day hearings in the Supreme Court to decide on the issue of the Ram temple at Ayodhya, triggering an uproar from the Opposition.

Urging the government to make a statement on the issue, he said the Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India had spoken of the backlog of cases in the apex court.

“I want to say that it (Ram temple) is a very difficult problem… Both sides are of the view that if the Supreme Court decides, it will be an agreeable solution,” he said.

Deputy Chairman Kurien, however, ruled that it was not a point of order.
