TWO DAYS after a grease-like substance was thrown at AAP leader Soni Sori, who had to be shifted to Delhi for treatment, the Chhattisgarh Police on Tuesday decided to accord her ‘Y’ category security. In a press release issued by AAP, Sori, however, rejected the police security and said the “adivasis of Bastar must be protected first”.
The police headquarters in Raipur Tuesday evening issued a press release, which said that in light of the attack, Sori would be given ‘Y’ category security.
Within minutes, the AAP issued a statement, which said that she had refused such security. “Taking security separately from the government is neither the culture of the AAP, nor the purpose of the fight of Soni Sori. If innocent tribals like Hidma get killed, then there is no point in giving Sori security,” it said.

Sori has also alleged that when she was attacked, the assailants asked her to stop raising the issue of an alleged fake encounter in Jagdalpur district, where the police claimed that a Maoist was killed. The family of the deceased, identified as Hidma, had alleged that he was only a poor villager and not connected to Maoists.
The AAP statement read, “If Bastar has to be saved, then the state must work towards finishing anti-social elements.”
