The Delhi Commission for Women and the Delhi Police filed affidavits before the bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath, furnishing data on the pendency of cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. According to lawyers engaged with the Rape crisis Cell of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), 1,138 cases of sexual assault were heard before various trial courts in April alone. Of these, 331 cases involved minors, said an affidavit filed by the DCW before the Delhi High Court. [related-post] Under the POCSO Act, police investigation is expected to be completed within three months, and trials within a year of taking cognizance of the offence. The data was filed in response to a PIL by the Bachpan Bachao Andolan, regarding delays in disposal of POCSO Cases.
