A DAY AFTER Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay General Hospital received a bomb hoax call, Malaviyanagar police tracked down the alleged caller and arrested him from near PD Malaviya College on Gondal Road on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip off, Malaviyanagar police detained Manish Vadodariya (20) from near PD Malaviya College in the morning. He was formally arrested in the afternoon for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication. Police said that Vadodariya, who hails from Mumbai but lives with her elder sister in Rajkot and works as a carpenter had made calls to three big hospitals in the city over the last 10 days saying bombs had been planted in their premises.
Vadodariya had made his first call to GT Sheth Orthopaedic Hospital near the district collector office on January 8 saying a bomb had been planted there and that it was about to go off. Police had rushed to the hospital with bomb disposal squad and dog squad only to find later on that it was hoax.
“During primary interrogation, Vadodariya said that he had gone to GT Sheth hospital on January 4 after he suffered injuries after his bike slipped. However, he had to wait for three hours before doctors attended him. He says that since the hospital staff had harassed him, he made the bomb hoax call to harass them,” Malaviyanagar police inspector Mulu Godhania told The Indian Express.
However, he made a similar call to HJ Doshi Hospital near the MP Malaviya College on Monday and followed it up with a call to PDU General Hospital on Tuesday. Police went into a tizzy on both days but ultimately found that the caller was misleading them.
“He said that he made calls to the rest two hospitals just to have fun and make police and hospital staff run hither and thither. He has studied till Class X and does not have criminal antecedents,” Godahiya further said.
Police said that he made the call to GT Sheth hospital by using his own SIM card. However, calls to Doshi hospital and PDU General Hospital were made from SIM cards belonging to his sister and her husband respectively.
After the bomb threat, an employee of the HJ Doshi Hospital had filed a complaint with Malaviyanagar police. Based on this complaint, police had booked the unidentified caller for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication under Section 507 of the Indian Penal Code.
