Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray labelled the Narendra Modi government’s demonetisation move as unplanned and said the country will be ruined if the move misfires. “There is no need to oppose initiatives which will help the nation. However, no background work seems to have taken place before taking this decision. The results of such a move are now visible to every one,” the MNS president said while addressing a meeting of party workers in Mumbai.

Thackeray said while everyone was being told that the move would be beneficial to the country, no one, including the Prime Minister, had explained how demonetisation would actually help people.

“Some people say that it is good for the future, but what is this future? No one is willing to explain. What is going to happen no one knows,” said Thackeray. He also lambasted the manner in which the decision was taken without keeping the central cabinet in the loop.

“We are a democracy but even ministers did not know about this decision. You take senior ministers into confidence before taking such a decision but it was not done,”said Thackeray. He also took a swipe at the Prime Minister and alleged that the party had poured in large sums of money into the Lok Sabha elections.

“If you hated black money so much please tell us how you got elected. The BJP is yet to give the election expenses for the Lok Sabha elections,” he said. He further added that if the decision fails the entire country would get ruined.

“The decision which Modi has taken, if it fails, then there will be serious crisis in the country. Everyone knows who has got how much black money. Why didn’t the government take action against them instead of asking people to stand in long queues,” said Thackeray.

He also accused the Prime Minister of double-speak on the issue.

“The Prime Minister has announced demonetisation to bring out black money and the BJP’s Janardan Reddy is spending Rs 500 crore on his daughter’s wedding,” he said.
