Reacting to PM Modi’s mention of Balochistan in his Independence Day speech, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said, “If PM wishes to talk about Balochistan he can, but he should also discuss about part of J&K which is burning.”

He also urged the prime minister to engage in dialogue with Pakistan. “When you say Kashmir is integral part of India, you are talking of land not people. Make people yours too. We are supporters of a dialogue process between India & Pakistan, we believe that a dialogue is the only way. It is responsibility of both PM Modi and Nawaz Sharif to create atmospherics for dialogue”

Omar slammed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for not taking any preventive measures to stop the violence in Kashmir ‘since she took over the reins of the PDP-BJP coalition government’. “For Mehbooba Mufti, everyone is responsible for what’s happening in the state except herself, she has played worst form of politics, has held everybody responsible from Nehru to Modi,” said Omar.

“Unlike PDP which actively lobbied for dismissal of my Govt, I neither sought dismissal of Mehbooba Ji’s Govt nor her resignation. This is not a battle for chairs. This is about safeguarding a future generation of J&K,” said the  former chief minister of J&K
