“The youngsters had entered the village last night around 8 pm. They had allegedly entered the house of a young woman and tried to outrage her modesty. As the villagers got the whiff, they collected and caught the two. They beat them with sticks and stones. The two died on the spot,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (Bero) Ajit Kumar Sinha.
Sinha added that the two youngsters were earlier involved in snatchings in the village. “However, these incidents were not reported to the police. Now, the villagers are saying that they used to indulge in petty criminal activities and were also earlier involved in another instance of sexual harassment. An FIR against unidentified persons has been registered and further investigations are on,” he said.
The incident comes a day after two young men were lynched by a mob in another village within the same police station area. They too were accused by the villagers of barging into a house and outraging the modesty of a woman. “Investigations in that case is also going on. But the two incidents are not related,” said Sinha.
