Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national spokesperson Sanjay Singh on Thursday said BSP chief Mayawati’s rule was better than that of the SP government and other parties when it came to maintaining law and order in Uttar Pradesh.

Speaking to mediapersons in Lucknow, Singh said the people of UP think BSP is better that other parties when it comes to dealing with law and order. He went on to cite an instance when Mayawati, as the chief minister, had got her own MP, Umakant Yadav, arrested. Police had also carried out several encounters during that period. However, Singh claimed BSP was similar to other parties when it came to corruption. “There is resentment in the public against hooliganism and anarchy prevailing in the SP rule,” said the AAP leader. On the issue of the proposed Ramayan Museum and Ram temple in Ayodhya, Singh said: “BJP leaders are making such statements for electoral gains in UP… SP and BJP both are jointly conspiring to divide the people on the lines of religion.” He claimed that in the 2017 Assembly polls, while there will be direct contest between SP and BSP, BJP will only manage the third position.

Describing Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav as ‘majboor CM’, Singh said “he rolls back his decisions on corruption and development issues following family feuds”. He added that AAP will contest the Assembly elections in Punjab and Goa next year because the party has developed a strong organisation in those states. “AAP will form governments in the two states with a majority… The party will not contest UP elections because AAP is yet to develop a strong organisation in the state. But AAP will contest local body elections in UP next year,” Singh, who is also the AAP incharge of UP, said.

He also accused the Modi government of trying to destablise the AAP government in Delhi. “There are several MPs like Union Minister Uma Bharti and MLAs in the UP Assembly who have criminal cases pending against them. But AAP MLAs are being targeted and action is being taken against them with malicious intention and a feeling of vengeance… As many as 14 AAP MLAs have been booked in fake cases,” said Singh.

He claimed that BJP was using the recent surgical strike by the Army along the LoC for political gains in UP by putting up hoardings displaying photographs of leaders and felicitating Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. “Parrikar has insulted the glorious history of Army by giving credit of the surgical strike to training of RSS… Nine surgical strikes were conducted in the last 15 years,” said Singh.
