A sub inspector was booked for reckless driving and abusing people after he hit a pick-up truck with his car in an inebriated condition at Dugri bridge on Monday evening.
Dugri Police registered an FIR under sections 279 (reckless driving), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) and 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC against the cop, identified as Inderjit Singh.
According to the driver of the pickup truck, at around 9 pm on Monday, a speeding car from behind hit his vehicle on Dugri brigge. “The car was being driven by Singh. When people huddled there, the policeman took out his gun and opened fire in the air. He also snatched motorcycle from a commuter after putting his gun on his head and fled from the spot,” said the police.
Gurdev Singh, SHO at Durgi police station, said the matter is being investigated and the cop was identified after people showed spot photographs to the police.
After the incident, the commuters staged protest at the spot and shouted slogans against the police.
