Jharkhand Congress MLA succumbs to cardiac arrest

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubas Das directed the state administration to accord state funeral to him.

Three-time MLA from Panki assembly constituency, Videsh Singh, passed away late on Monday night at his residence in Daltonganj (Palamu). Singh (61), who had won on Congress ticket in the 2014 assembly polls, suffered a cardiac at Medini Nagar hospital, where he was taken after he complained of chest pain and unease.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubas Das directed the state administration to accord state funeral to him.
Minister C P Singh reached Palamu to attend the last rites of the MLA. In his condolence message, Das remembered Singh as a genial member, who always raised issues of public importance and was always involved in the assembly proceedings.

In a condolence meeting held at the Jharkhand Assembly, Speaker Dinesh Oraon described him as a combative member in the House. “He would raise questions of public importance, particularly during the zero-hour. His questions were based on lot of information. He was also very congenial in his disposition,” said the Speaker in his statement. He said that the entire House was saddened by his demise and prayed for strength to his family to deal with his loss.

Singh had first become MLA in 2005 (on RJD ticket) from Panki and had gone on to win all the polls subsequently. In 2014, he had won on Congress ticket, while in 2009, he had won as an independent. He is survived by two sons.
