Three militants were killed in an encounter on Thursday with security forces in Kupwara in north Kashmir, said the Army. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of militants in Dobwan forest area, a joint team of police and army launched a search operation, an army official said. As the search operation was going on, the militants opened fire on the security personnel who retaliated. In the ensuing gunfight, three militants have been killed, the army official said. In the other encounter, three militants were killed in Drugmulla area in the evening, the official added. The exchange of firing is going on intermittently, the official said adding the operation is still on. Over 190 people, including 47 security personnel and 108 militants, were killed in militancy-related violence and ceasefire violations by Pakistan in the 12-month period from January 15, 2015. The encounter is underway. More details awaited.
