Rajasthan Police said they will seek assistance from the international headquarters of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Telegram services to obtain detailed online activity logs of Mohammad Sirajuddin, an assistant manager (Sales) at Indian Oil Corporation in Jaipur who was Thursday arrested for allegedly promoting IS agenda.

Sirajuddin was arrested by the Rajasthan ATS based on information from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) about his suspicious online activity. A 20-year-old girl from Hyderabad, who was allegedly being indoctrinated by Sirajuddin, was apprehended by the Telangana police and during her “de-radicalisation” counselling, she revealed her link to Sirajuddin.

“We will be writing to the global headquarters of these social media organisations to get detailed data. It’s a lengthy process… should take some time,” Alok Tripathi, ADG, ATS, told The Sunday Express.

“Besides, some data from his laptop may have been erased, so we will try to retrieve it. For the downloaded data that has been erased, we will try to get the original files from the servers of these companies,” he added.

ATS interrogators, however, denied reports about Sirajuddin’s purported travel plans for Syria via Argentina. “He might have thought of going there sometime in the future, but not anytime soon. He said he couldn’t think of going to Syria because of his children,” an ATS source said.

Besides online activity, including chat and social media posts, Sirajuddin might have been in touch with some IS leaders over the phone too, ATS sources claimed.
