Almost two months after the Jat quota stir threw Haryana in turmoil, BJP president Amit Shah and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar addressed a huge rally in Gohana, Sonepat, on Saturday, listing out various schemes that would ensure jobs for the youth in the state and improve the life of villagers. Sonepat was one of the affected districts during the stir.

The two leaders were addressing Haryana Swaran Jayanti Panchayati Raj Sammelan at Gohana with panchayat representatives from across the state and a huge crowd in attendance. “As Haryanvis, we are one. Certain elements keep trying to divide us. Two months ago, too, such elements became active. They made all attempts to divide the people of Haryana. But we are confident that we are one,” Khattar said in reference to the stir.

He also asked the people to chant the slogan: “Haryana ek, Haryanvi ek.”

The CM also spoke about the problem of unemployment facing the youth and promised to create four lakh jobs in the next few years. “The youth is running around jobless. The farmer is suffering because of shrinking land holdings. In jobs, there is competition and our youth can’t get through. That’s why we conducted the recent investor summit (in Rohtak) where 360 MoUs were signed,” Khattar said.

Shah chose to blame the “corrupt” Hooda and Chautala governments for the plight of the state. “For so many years, Haryana has seen the prominence of two families. The power would keep shifting between the two while people would remain where they were,” Shah said, stressing how people had given the mandate to the BJP to change that situation.

He listed out various schemes of the Centre and said if the prime minister’s promise of doubling the income of farmers by 2022 was to be realised, Haryana would have to lead the way.
