Gujarat: More than 250 prisoners to get 15-day parole

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has decided to extend this relief to the prisoners.

The Gujarat government on Friday announced to extend 15-days parole to all women and elderly prisoners to allow them celebrate Diwali with their families.  The Diwali relief, however, will not be applicable for those charged with terror, foreigners, prisoners who have filed appeals against their conviction and those whose movements are confined in the jail under Section 268 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

Announcing the relief, minister of state for home Pradipsinh Jadeja in a press release, said that “jail inmates above 60 and all women prisoners have been granted 15-day parole.”

It said that Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has decided to extend this relief to the prisoners. The announcement is likely to benefit over 250 prisoners across the state.
