Five missing diffently-abled children return after 2 days, had gone to a wedding

The officials said that the children had gone to the wedding of one of their classmates’ relative without informing school authorities. They have been traced and are safe. Four of them have also returned to the school.

The district and school authorities in neighbouring Ramgarh heaved a sigh of relief on Friday, when five differently-abled students went missing from a government residential school since Wednesday, returned Friday afternoon.

The officials said that the children had gone to the wedding of one of their classmates’ relative without informing school authorities. They have been traced and are safe. Four of them have also returned to the school.

The Principal of Residential School for the differently-abled children in Sukrigadha village under Chitarpur block of Ramgarh district had alerted the district authorities after five children from class 9 and 10 were found missing on Thursday. Those who went missing were identified as Dhaneshwar Bedia, Dev Kumar Thakur, Samindra Karmali (all Class 9), Sudesh Mahato and Abhishek Ravidas (both Class 10).

“We were looking for them, when we got call from the parents of one of the missing child. He informed that all of them had reached a wedding in Bhurkunda area on Wednesday and they were safe. Friday morning, our team reached there and brought four of the boys back. One of the boys was taken to his home by his parents. They were safe and no physical harm was done to them,” said Social Welfare Officer (Ramgarh), Monica Rani Tooti. She, however, said that she was yet to talk to them in detail.

Child Development Officer (Chitarpur Block), Reena Kumari, said: “On Wednesday, they had gone to bathe at a well near the school. It appears that there they decided to leave for the wedding thinking that the school authorities would not allow them to go to the wedding. They then sneaked away without informing the school authorities. We are talking to them in more detail to ascertain whether they had applied for leave at all.”
