Delhi: Man bleeds to death after hit-and-run, gets robbed too

The victim was reportedly lying on the road, near the sidewalk, for almost an hour till the police was informed about the mishap.

A 32-year-old man died on wee hours of Thursday morning after he was rammed by a freight rickshaw in west Delhi’s Subhash Nagar area, police confirmed.

“The deceased has been identified as Matbool, a resident of West Bengal. He was hit by an auto rickshaw (freight) from behind,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Pushpendra Kumar told IANS.

Matbool was reportedly lying on the road, near the sidewalk, for almost an hour till the police was informed about the mishap. A government hospital was just 500 metres from the accident spot.

“He was declared brought dead in the hospital,” the officer said, adding, “We are looking for the auto driver, whose visuals have been captured in the CCTV cameras installed in the area.”

From the CCTV footage which captured the accident, the driver of the auto rickshaw was seen halting the vehicle to asses its damage before he had fled the spot. While the driver ignored the victim lying by the road, another man was seen robbing the deceased off his mobile phone.

According to police, Matbool used to work as an e-rickshaw driver and at night he worked as a security guard.

The victim resided in west Delhi’s Tihar village area with his family.
