Former Indian cricketer and BJP MP Kirti Azad will file a writ petition in the Delhi High Court demanding appointment of an administrator and time-bound SIT probe of the alleged irregularities – financial and administrative – in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). Azad stated that his petition will also be against the central government, Delhi government, DDCA Executives – present and past - and the BCCI. When asked whether this would include former DDCA president Arun Jaitley, Azad, without taking his name, said, “It includes all former and current executives of the DDCA. May it be former presidents, treasurers or any executive committee member.” [related-post] “I’m waiting for Justice Mukul Mudgal to submit his second report. The moment he does that, we will push the writ by clubbing his findings too,” Azad told reporters at his residence. Justice Mudgal has already submitted a 27-page report slamming the DDCA’s ad-hocism. The second part of the report would deal with the financial side. Azad was all praise for Justice Mudgal for the manner in which he conducted the India-South Africa Test but feels even a person appointed by the High Court was not able to set DDCA right. “Despite someone over their head, the DDCA was able to produce fake bills worth over Rs 50 lakhs. They showed fictitious repair work, consumed extra plates, have not paid Embassy restaurant around 11.5 lakh,” says Azad referring to The Indian Express report on bills not cleared by Mudgal. DDCA, according to Azad, made a profit of “about Rs 2 crore” after hosting the India-South Africa Test. The former cricketer feels had he got more time, profits could have well soared to at least Rs 5 crore. “After 1982, DDCA showed profit for a Test match for the first time. Just imagine, for these many years they were not making any money from these games,” says Azad. Should DDCA host the Ind-SL T20I, Azad says, “of course. We all are cricketers here and want cricket to happen here but these (DDCA officials) shouldn’t manage it.” ‘No defamation notice’ Almost a month after DDCA made its intentions clear to file a defamation suit against Azad and Arvind Kejriwal for their “repeated remarks” of alleged irregularities in the association, Azad is yet to receive a formal notice and says he’s not the one who would get scared by “these tactics”. “Unhe lagta hai mai is sab se dar jaauga? That won’t happen. Let them say what they have to but I am yet to receive a notice in this matter,” says Azad.
