Congress delegation meets Pranab Mukherjee, demands sacking of HCU V-C

A Congress delegation Tuesday knocked on the doors of President Pranab Mukherjee, seeking his intervention to restore peaceful environment at Hyderabad Central University (HCU) and ensure a fair investigation.

The delegation urged him to intervene for initiation of proceedings against Union ministers Smriti Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya and for the immediate resignation or sacking of HCU Vice-Chancellor P Appa Rao.

The Congress delegation led by Mallikarjun Kharge and Sushil Kumar Shinde said the V-C must be “suspended pending inquiry into his role in the suicide of Rohith Vemula, as also the recent illegal crackdown on students”.

Ladakh civil society groups will resume talks with the Centre on October 22, following a judicial probe into the September 24 violence in Leh ordered by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
