CM Mehbooba Mufti calls for all-party meet to discuss Kashmir situation

The invitation has been extended to the all major mainstream parties and the meeting will be chaired by the CM.

As protests and curfew continue in the Valley and separatists have issued a fresh protest calendar, J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has convened an all-party meet to discuss the current situation in the Valley.

The invitation has been extended to the all major mainstream parties and the meeting will be chaired by the CM.

Mehbooba Mufti has convened an all-party meeting at SKICC in Srinagar on Thursday to discuss the prevailing law and order situation in Kashmir,’’ the spokesman said, adding that invitation has been extended to all the political parties including Peoples Democratic Party, BJP, National Conference, Congress, CPI(M), CPI, National Panthers Party, Democratic Party Nationalist, Peoples Democratic Front and others to discuss the prevailing situation and the measures to be taken to restore peace and normalcy in the Valley.

The senior minister in the government, Abdul Rehman Veeri personally called party heads and urged them to attend the meet. “I received a call from senior PDP minister, who asked me to attend the meeting,’’ said J&K Pradesh Congress president, Ghulam Ahmad Mir. He said that senior party leaders will meet in Srinagar to decide whether the meeting will be attended or not. “We will also decide, incase we will attend this meet, what will be our stand.’’

Former Minister and president of Democratic Nationalist Party, Ghulam Hassan Mir, also confirmed that he received a call for all-party meet. “This is good that meeting has been called. In democratic setup this is encouraging and we will attend the meet,’’ he said, adding that “only after meeting with senior leaders we will decided what will be our strategy”.

Independent legislator, Engineer Rashid who heads Awami Ittehad Party, said that incase he attends the meeting he will convey the chief minister to ask New Delhi to talk to all the stake holders otherwise there will be no peace.
