TAKING A dig at the state ministers, former deputy Chief Minister and senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar on Monday urged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to keep a check on his state ministers and avoid making controversial statements which could create a rift in the society.

“One cannot expect things to happen their way just because they are in power. The chief minister needs to control the state ministers who are making controversial statements,” Pawar said at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the overhead water tank projects in Wanowrie.

He said the new government would complete two years in power and the state government should keep a check on its ministers. “Some ministers publicly urge for transfer of bureaucrats as if they are their employees. It is not necessary that your thinking is right just because you are in power. Those in power should learn to respect the opinion of others,” Pawar said.

The Maratha morchas across the state have been peaceful, he said, adding that some people are trying to create unnecessary controversies over it. “The state government is merely passing resolution on the reservation for Marathas but in reality doing nothing to bring it into existence,” the NCP leader said.

He said NCP chief Sharad Pawar recently met the Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to give reservation to Marathas without affecting the reservation for the OBC categories.
