A PhD student of Jawaharlal Nehru University has been booked for allegedly raping a fellow student in his hostel room Saturday, said police. The accused, identified as Anmol Ratan (29), is the former state president of the All India Students’ Association (AISA), added police.
Based on the complaint filed by the woman — a 28-year-old PhD student — police have registered a case of rape and criminal intimidation under sections of the IPC against Ratan. He has not yet been arrested, said police.

According to the complaint filed by the woman, she wanted to watch the movie, Sairat, and asked if anyone had a copy in a post on a social networking site.
The accused had replied on the platform, saying he has a copy of the film. She alleged that on Saturday, the accused took her to his room on the pretext of giving her the movie. She alleged in her complaint that he offered her a drink which was spiked and raped her after she fell unconscious.
Police said when she regained consciousness, she tried to raise an alarm but the accused threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Nupur Prasad said, “In her complaint, the woman has alleged that the accused picked her up from the hostel to give her the film and took her to his hostel, Brahmaputra, where he offered her some drinks. He then sexually assaulted her.”
She added, “On the basis of her complaint, we have registered a case under sections 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code at Vasant Kunj North police station. Further investigation is underway.”
The woman has been taken for a medical examination and is likely to record her statement before a magistrate Monday, said an officer.
