The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has moved a fresh application before a Varanasi court seeking an additional 15 days to submit its report on the court-ordered scientific survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex to ascertain whether the mosque was “constructed over a pre-existing structure of a Hindu temple”. The Anjuman Intezamia Masjid committee manages the affairs of the Gyanvapi mosque complex. Appearing for the UP government, Special Counsel Rajesh Mishra said the court has admitted the ASI's application, seeking an additional 15 days to submit the survey report. The court is likely to pass the order on the application on Saturday. According to Mishra, the ASI in its application stated that it has completed a scientific investigation/ survey at the site but the preparation of a report conducted by the ground penetrating radar (GPR) is underway, so it needs some more time to prepare a detailed survey report for the submission. On November 2, the court gave 15 days additional time to ASI to complete and submit its report. The ASI team had received similar extensions on October 5, and on September 8.
