A Lucknow court on Monday took cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the Uttar Pradesh Police against alleged conman Sanjay Prakash Rai, alias Sherpuriya and fixed August 4 as the date for framing of charges in the case. Sherpuriya was arrested in April by the UP Special Task Force (STF) over allegations of collecting crores of rupees by faking access to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The chargesheet against Sherpuriya, a resident of Ghazipur district in the state, was filed on July 21 under Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act. The alleged conman, who is lodged in jail, was brought for appearance in the court on Monday. A case was lodged against him in Lucknow.
