Four people, all of them students of a coaching centre, have been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl in Rajasthan’s Kota, police said Thursday.
Kota’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Uma Sharma said that according to the girl, the incident took place on February 10. “The girl said that she knew a youth through social media. He invited her to his flat, and when she went there, she was raped. There were three other people there,” Sharma said.
The ASP said that while the incident took place last Saturday, the case was lodged on Tuesday. The four accused, all adults, were subsequently detained, and were formally arrested on Thursday.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Sharma said the girl and the person who invited her to his flat met through social media “recently”.
“All of them are students. While the girl is a minor, the four boys are all adults and hail from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal. A case has been lodged against them for gangrape and sections of the Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act,” the ASP said.
On the delay between when the incident took place and when the case was filed, Sharma said it was possible that the girl “was scared or under pressure, and concerned about her career or bringing disrepute”.
The ASP said the names of the four accused are not being disclosed yet “for safety reasons”.
