Focusing on pre and post-Diwali cleanliness, MHA launches Swachh Diwali campaign

The Union government on Monday launched the Swachh Diwali, Shubh Diwali campaign to encourage people not to use single-use plastic and focus on pre and post-Diwali cleanliness.

Starting from Monday, the signature campaign would be run on MyGov.in till Diwali, the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry said in a statement.

“This initiative aims to instil a sense of responsibility towards the environment and communities by sensitising and motivating individuals to opt for locally-made products,” the Ministry said.

Also on Monday, the Ministry announced another initiative, Jal Diwali, where thousands of women members of self-help groups under the National Urban Livelihood Mission would visit 550 water treatment plants.

“The campaign aims to provide a platform for inclusion of women in water governance,” the Ministry said in another statement.
