At least 800 people have been killed, and 2,500 injured in the powerful earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan. The magnitude 6 earthquake struck the eastern provinces of Kunar and Nangarhar on Sunday. The epicentre of the earthquake was about 27km from Jalalabad and 140km from Kabul. Himachal Pradesh, which has been battling one of the worst floods in recent times, will receive above normal rains in September, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said. According to IMD, Himachal Pradesh this August was the wettest the state has been in 76 years. An isolated Amazon tribe in Peru has reportedly made contact with a neighbouring village, raising concerns among activists about their future. The Mashco Piro, which lives deep inside the Amazon forest, is one of the world’s largest uncontacted groups and there is a fear that since they lack immunity to common diseases, a simple common cold could prove fatal for the community once they come into contact with the outside world.
