THE THANE police have registered a case against Jay Mukhi, an accused in the Ephedrine drug bust case, for allegedly threatening a police officer on the Thane court premises. Mukhi was one of the persons arrested by the Thane police for smuggling Ephedrine, a controlled substance, to Africa, where it was used to make meth. According to public prosecutor Shishir Hirey, the incident took place on Saturday, when the court was hearing an application by Mukhi that claimed he had been tortured by the Thane police in custody. “He was outside the courtroom where the investigating officer Amol Walzade was also present. Mukhi threatened Walzade and told him he would ensure Walzade goes behind bars,” Hirey told the court. He added that Walzade informed the judge hearing the matter about this, and the judge called up the constable who had escorted Mukhi to the court. “The constable confirmed before the judge that Mukhi had threatened Walzade,” Hirey said. Following this, Walzade approached the Thane Nagar police station, where a case has been registered against Mukhi for threatening a public servant. None of the accused persons arrested in the case have secured bail so far. In the Ephedrine case, the Thane police have named former starlet Mamta Kulkarni and druglord Vicky Goswami among wanted persons. The police case is that the accused planned to use Ephedrine from Avon Lifesciences Limited, a Solapur-based pharma company, to cook Meth.
