Himachal Pradesh Governor Urmila Singh on Monday honoured 20 teachers for their outstanding contributions to the field of education and setting high standards of professional commitments. At a function held at Raj Bhawan on Teachers Day,out of the 20 awardees,while four teachers were conferred the National Award,16 were honoured with state-level awards. (see box) At Himachal Pradesh University,Vice-Chancellor A D N Bajpai announced the release of 20 per cent arrears to teachers following the Sixth Wage Board recommendations. The remaining 10 per cent will be released at the earliest,he added. Meanwhile,G S Dhillon,Principal of Dalhousie Public School at Chamba who was presented the National Award by President Pratibha Patil in New Delhi on Monday donated the cash prize of Rs 25,000 to create education infrastructure for deprived children.
