Despite the availability of forms online and at post offices, students crowded college centres to register themselves for admission to under-graduate courses on Monday. At many colleges, forms were sold out within two hours of the counters opening.

At PGDAV and ARSD colleges, the first lot of 1,000 forms was sold out by 12.30 pm,officials said. Gargi College also sold 1,000 forms by 12 noon, but managed to requisition another batch of forms from the university by then.

V A Khan,Administrative Officer at Gargi, said,“After seeing the huge number of students thronging our centre,we had informed the university that we would need more forms. Thus,we received 1,000 forms before the first lot ran out.”

Gargi College sold more than 1,200 forms before the counters closed on Monday.

Miranda House sold 3,000 forms on Monday, while Shyam Lal College, the only college centre in East Delhi, sold 2,000 forms by 12.45 pm.

Most colleges said they hoped the university will increase the supply of forms.

Officer on Special Duty at ARSD Dr Sandeep Sharma said,“We expect the university to send more forms for tomorrow. It has been noticed that most students prefer buying forms on the first few days. For instance,in 2010,our college sold around 700-800 forms on the first day but the number started dwindling after two days.”

“People prefer coming to colleges because they are not sure of the situation at the post office. Moreover, they want to get a sense of the college. The location of ARSD on the Ring Road can also be a factor,” said Dr Sharma.
