At least four people were injured and several buildings developed cracks in Doda and Kishtwar districts on Tuesday as an earthquake of 5.4 magnitude struck parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Srinagar-based officials of the Meteorological Department, the quake struck at 1.33 pm and it originated at a depth of 21km. Mild tremors were reported in parts of Delhi and other parts of North India too.
The injured included Qayanat Tabasum, an employee of the Roads and Buildings department at Bhaderwah, Israr Ahmed (15) of Dandi village and two students of the Government High School at Jora Khurd in Kahara tehsil. Israr Ahmed was already undergoing treatment at a government-run Sub-District Hospital at Bhaderwah when some tiles from the ceiling fell on him. The boy has now been shifted to the hospital’s emergency.
Three vehicles parked near the old bus stand in Bhaderwah town were also damaged as bricks from a nearby building fell on them. However, no one was injured.
