This takes the number of security personnel killed by Naxals this year to 20, as compared to 19 such deaths last year.

At least 44 Maoists have been gunned down by security forces inside the Indravati National Park in a series of encounters in January, February, June and July. In July, Maoists killed two Shiksa Doots (contractual teachers) in the Indravati National Park, suspecting them of being police informers.

Naxals plant several pressure IEDs in the jungle to target the forces. Due to a large security vacuum, the national park has been a safe haven as well as a training ground for Maoists.

DRG is a specialised state-level force where tribals from remote areas are recruited, including surrendered Naxals, and establishing the force has been the most effective and controversial strategy against the Maoists.
