Indian Railways travel advisory, Diwali 2025, Chhath Puja 2025: To manage the heavy passenger rush during the upcoming Diwali festival and Chhath Puja, Indian Railways has temporarily suspended the sale of platform tickets at 15 major stations, including those in Delhi and Mumbai. The move is aimed at ensuring smooth passenger movement and safe boarding and deboarding at busy stations.

Suspension of platform ticket sales

The restriction on platform ticket sales will remain in effect until October 28, 2025. However, the platform tickets will, however, be issued to senior citizens, ailing passengers, children, and lady passengers who require assistance, as per Railway Board guidelines.

  • Hazrat Nizamuddin
  • Anand Vihar Terminal
  • Ghaziabad
  • Bandra Terminus
  • Vapi
  • Surat
  • Udhna
  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)
  • Dadar
  • Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT)
  • Thane
  • Kalyan
  • Panvel

Of these, the five stations: CSMT, Dadar, LTT, Thane, Kalyan and Panvel, the platform ticket sales will be restricted from October 16, 2025. The national transporter has also urged the passengers to plan their travel accordingly and cooperate with railway authorities to ensure a smooth and safe journey experience during the festive period.

Holding areas at New Delhi railway station

Last week, the Northern Railway zone completed the construction of a permanent holding area at New Delhi railway station. This permanent holding area has been built towards Ajmeri Gate of New Delhi Railway Station premises to ensure smooth management of passengers during festivals, when the crowd of passengers increases. The center is designed to accommodate approximately 7,000 passengers at any given time.
