Delhi Metro latest update, Delhi air pollution news: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started running 60 additional train trips across its corridors from Tuesday, November 11, after GRAP-III guidelines were enforced in Delhi due to worsening pollution levels. The move is aimed at encouraging people to use Metro instead of their own vehicles and help mitigate the deteriorating air quality in the capital city as a collective responsibility.

Speaking to IndianExpress.com, a senior DMRC official has confirmed the development. “Yes, we have started running 60 additional train trips after GRAP-III imposed in the national capital,” the official said.

Earlier, on October 27, DMRC had added 40 extra train trips following the implementation of GRAP-II in Delhi. At that time, the Delhi Metro had stated that it was prepared to increase this to 60 additional trips if GRAP-III was enforced in the coming days.

On November 11, the national capital woke up to its worst air quality of the season, with the AQI plunging to into the “severe” category at 423. The Centre invoked stricter anti-pollution measures under Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the wake of the deteriorating air quality.

Delhi GRAP 3 restrictions

The implementation of Stage III curbs, which include a ban on non-essential construction work and closure of stone crushers and mining activities, is in addition to the actions already enforced under Stages I and II of GRAP.

Under Stage 3, the use of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel cars (4-wheelers) is restricted in Delhi and nearby NCR districts. Persons with disabilities are exempt.
