A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) sub-inspector was killed and a constable grievously injured in a Naxal attack on Sunday in Chhattisgarh's southernmost Sukma district. According to officials, the incident took place at 7 am when a team of CRPF Battalion 165 was headed from the Bedre police camp under the Jagargunda jurisdiction for an anti-Naxal operation. The team was headed towards Ursangal when the encounter took place with the Naxals who took advantage of the dense forest cover and opened fire at the team. The CRPF team fired back at the Naxals who fled from the spot. In the attack, sub-inspector Sudhakar Reddy was killed and constable Ramu suffered a bullet injury. Ramu has been air-lifted to the state capital Raipur, which is over 431 km from Sukma, for better treatment. Officials said four men were found moving suspiciously during their search operations, and were detained for questioning. The CRPF and local police forces are combing the area, they added. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his deep sorrow and offered condolences to the family members of Reddy. Sai also instructed officers to make arrangements for the proper treatment of Ramu.
