UP govt still looking for ‘missing’ files of Ayodhya dispute

The Uttar Pradesh government said that it was making all out efforts to trace 23 missing files related to Ayodhya title suits.

The Uttar Pradesh government said on Wednesday that it was making all out efforts to trace 23 missing files related to Ayodhya title suits.

“We are making efforts to trace the files. Necessary steps have been taken in this regard,” state Home Secretary Mahesh Kumar Gupta told reporters in Ayodhya.

Asked whether the state government was contemplating any action against those responsible for upkeep of the files,he said something would be done at an appropriate time.

On Tuesday,the state government informed the Allahabad High Court that it could not trace five documents pertaining to the title suits despite a thorough search.

It also informed the Lucknow Bench of the High Court that 23 other files related to the cases were missing. These pertained to the correspondence between the then Faizabad Deputy Commissioner and the state government in 1949,official sources said.

The documents also related to a telegram sent by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to the state government.
