Surat auto driver held for raping taxmans wife

The wife of an income tax inspector has accused an autorickshaw driver,who is also their neighbour,of raping and robbing her of gold ornaments worth Rs 2 lakh and Rs 80,000 in cash.

The wife of an income tax inspector has accused an autorickshaw driver,who is also their neighbour,of raping and robbing her of gold ornaments worth Rs 2 lakh and Rs 80,000 in cash. The auto-driver has been arrested.

As per details,the 35-year old woman,a tribal who is a mother of three,left her house at Athwalines on January 5 following a quarrel with her husband.

Once outside,she ran into Altaf Shaikh (45),the auto-driver,who was known to her family. The woman told him she was going to her native Kamrej village. Shaikh stopped an authoricksahw and offered to accompany her to Kamrej. On the way,Shaikh suggested they could go to Ajmer and she agreed. Both took a bus to Vadodara from where they again boarded a bus and reached Ajmer,where they stayed for a few days before returning to Surat on Wednesday night.

Once in Surat,the woman,accompanied by her husband,lodged a complaint at the Umra police station,alleging Shaikh raped her in the hotel and took away her gold ornaments and Rs 80,000 in cash.

The woman and Shaikh,were taken for medical examination today,said SC/ST Cell inspector M U Pathan.
