Four days after the Delhi Police said his wife Sunanda Pushkar was murdered, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Friday said he was surprised and troubled by the conclusion. Tharoor said he will fully co-operate with the police probe. He also said the probe should be conducted in a professional manner without any pre-determined outcome or political compulsion. He addressed the media on Friday, when his treatment was over. Tharoor said he was taken aback on hearing that the police had registered an FIR against unknown persons for murder in the death of his wife. “No one in the family had any reason to believe that foul play was involved in her passing. Everyone loved her deeply. There is no question of anyone who has access to her having any reason to harm her,’’ he said. Tharoor said he had pledged his full cooperation with the police to help them find the truth. “The media has been going to town with stories alleging that my silence is sinister. I have been silent not only for these four days but for the whole of last year. When there is a police probe going on, it is my duty not to undermine or compromise their inquiry by anything I say in public,” Tharoor said. “I have been the one who has been silent on the issue despite several provocative statements. Let the police do their work. I am not going to engage myself in a public debate to increase TRP ratings. That is going to my position on this issue,’’ he said.
