The second rank holder of EdCET, the entrance test for B.Ed admissions in Telangana, has been arrested for allegedly using an impersonator, an Indian Railways employee, to take the test on his behalf.
Maliga Lingaswamy, who had applied to take the Telangana State EdCET-2015 entrance exam, was arrested by the Crime Central Station, Hyderabad. Many other rank holders, including topper Maliga Krishnakanth, who is Lingaswamy’s cousin, and former Osmania University are under investigation.

Officials said Lingaswamy engaged K Shoban, a former student of Osmania University who works with the railways, to appear in the EdCET test on his behalf. The test was conducted by the Telangana State Council of Higher Education on June 6 for selection of candidates for 25,000 B.Ed seats across the state. There are 160 B.Ed seats in Osmania University for which competition is heavy.
After the results were declared, Professor Padala Prasad, convener of Telangana State Education Common Entrance Test-2015, Osmania University, lodged a complaint with the Telangana State Council of Higher Education alleging malpractices during the entrance test.
During the course of investigation, on August 19, Lingaswamy, a native of Nalgonda district, was taken into custody and interrogated. “He confessed that after completion of MA (English) from Osmania University, he wanted to take admission in B.Ed. course to continue in OU campus. So he asked his friend Srinivas Reddy to send his application online for EdCET-2015 by affixing the photo of his friend K Shoban,” said Assistant Commissioner V Kaleshvali.
