In a new twist in the Ranbir Singh encounter case, the father of the deceased has alleged that he has received a threatening letter asking him not to come to Uttarakhand.

Police sources say that RP Singh received the letter signed by one GC Rautela of Majra area in Dehradun at his Ghaziabad residence. However,he chose to lodge a police complaint with the authorities in Baghpat where his native village is located.

The letter is said to have been written with regional overtones and states that Singh and his family have targeted Uttarakhand Police by mounting political pressure on the Uttarakhand government. The letter warned them not to come to Uttarakhand or they will face dire consequences.

Police sources say that since the letter was received at Ghaziabad address,it will be the Ghaziabad police that will be investigating the matter.

Dehradun’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abhinav Kumar told The Indian Express,“We will co-operate with anyone who is investigating the matter. As of now I have not received a copy of the said letter.”

Ranbir Singh’s encounter case was recommended for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank last week following intense pressure from the civil society, his parents and political parties.

The 22 year youth had been gunned down by Dehradun police on the outskirts of the city on July 3. While the police accused him of having beaten up and snatching the service revolver of a police official along with two of his accomplices, his parents allege that he was killed in cold blood by the police.
