Maharashtra government said on Friday that it has not got any letter from Mumbai police Crime Branch Chief Rakesh Maria offering to resign in the backdrop of allegations by slain IPS officer Ashok Kamte's widow. "No such letter has been received," informed senior home department sources wishing not to be identified. The clarification comes in the wake of media reports that Maria,upset over the allegations by Vinita Kamte,widow of martyred Additional Commissioner of Police (East),in her book on the circumstances leading to her husband's death,had offered to quit. Maria,according to reports,had said he would quit if the home department did not clarify allegations levelled against him or allow him to do so. "I'm ready to face any questions raised by anyone about everything written in my book. I stand by each and every word," said Vinita over phone from Pune while reacting to reports about Maria's threat to quit. "My book is based on the facts given by the Mumbai police using the RTI Act," she said. In her book,Vinita slammed Maria for denying that he had guided Ashok Kamte to Cama hospital where Kamte died fighting the terrorists along with Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad Chief Hemant Karkare and encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar. Maria had reportedly shot off a letter to state's Home Minister R R Patil yesterday. Vinita said she was initially reluctant about writing the book "but my desire to find out the truth about what happened on the night of November 26 leading to my husband's death ultimately triumphed."
