Cineyug Director Karim Morani whose bail would be decided on Monday by a Delhi court,on Saturday said he was just "like a chai wala (tea vendor) who hopped on to the conspiracy train without having to do anything with where it was heading." Senior counsel Siddharth Luthra, appearing for Morani, submitted before Special CBI Judge O P Saini that "conspiracy is like a train and Morani was just like a chai wala who hops on to the train and hops off after carrying out his work without any idea of where the train is going or has nothing to do with it." Reacting to the submission, special public prosecutor U U Lalit argued Morani was handling the finances of Cineyug when the "illegal gratification" of Rs 200 crore was routed to Kalaignar TV through it. "The transactions are not backed by any contemporaneous documents and were later given a semblance of innocent transfers. Cineyug is shown to have been interested in acquiring 49 percent shares in KTV but after the June 2009 valuation report pegged the shares at much higher value, the money was shown to have called back. However,Cineyug transferred Rs 150 crore in July and August 2009." "These are not innocent transactions of a chai wala who hops on to a train," Lalit countered.
