Manu Sharma may not get parole again, says official

With Delhi police confirming violation of parole norms by Manu Sharma,a top government official said he may not get the benefit of the temporary release in future.

With Delhi police confirming violation of parole norms by Jessica Lall murder case convict Manu Sharma, serving a life sentence,a top government official on Tuesday said he may not get the benefit of the temporary release in future.

“It will be very difficult for him to get parole again as he was found to be violating conditions under which he was given the benefit,” the Delhi Government official said.

The city Government, which came under severe criticism for allowing parole to Sharma, earlier in the day asked the police to examine whether Sharma violated parole norms and subsequently the police sent a letter to the government confirming his presence at a night bar here.

The official said Sharma should not have been present in Delhi as he was given parole under the condition that he will visit Chandigarh to attend to his “ailing” mother.

Sharma returned to Tihar jail today though his parole was to end only on November 22. Sharma was awarded life imprisonment for the murder of Jessica Lall in 1999.

A controversy erupted after Sharma along with a friend Sahil Dhingra was reportedly spotted at LAP Lounge Bar last week in violation of his parole norms which prescribed him to be only in Chandigarh.

The Delhi Government receives nearly 400 applications for grant of parole per year,of which about 100 are granted the benefit.
