A 10-year-old was allegedly beaten to death by his father for not attending school, the police said on Sunday. Ajit Majid Khan, a resident of Ambernath in Thane district, on Saturday, asked his son Sajid why he had neither been studying nor attending school for several days, to which his son could give no satisfactory reply. Khan, in a fit of anger, then beat his son with a stick on his head following which he fell unconscious, Shivaji Nagar police station inspector D S Gavade said. Neighbours first took the boy to a local health unit for medical assistance, but while he was being shifted to Thane Civil Hospital later, he succumbed to his injuries, the police said. Khan, who has five wives, was arrested Sunday, they said. The boy’s mother had separated from Khan about 5 years ago and Sajid had since been living with his father. Khan has been booked for murder, the police added.
