Lucknow murder: Family’s dharna for CBI probe enters sixth day

"We want to meet the Chief Minister, but it seems he is not ready for this," said the victims' family.

Family members of the 35-year-old woman, who was murdered in Mohanlalganj area, continued with their dharna at GPO Crossing here for the sixth day today to demand a CBI probe in the case. “We are sitting on dharna with two children of the victim and other relatives at GPO Crossing to press for our demand for CBI probe,” the victim’s brother-in-law said on Sunday.

He said they also want a higher compensation. He alleged no one from the government has met the family and added that they would continue with the dharna till their demands were met. “We want to meet the Chief Minister, but it seems he is not ready for this. We will keep trying to meet him,” he said.

The family members had been sitting on the dharna since July 22. They claim that they have written a letter to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and DGP AL Banerjee on July 21 demanding a CBI probe in the case. The widow was brutally murdered on the night of July 16
for resisting rape bid, according to police.

A 38-year-old guard Ram Sewak was arrested for the crime on July 20.
