The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation submitted before the Delhi High Court that the Gammon India, the contractor for metro rail, has been blacklisted but soon afterwards it retracted the statement saying it was a slip of tongue on part of its counsel.
“Gammon has been blacklisted after the incident,” the DMRC’s counsel said before Justice Rajeev Sikdhar who was hearing a petition filed by a businessman seeking compensation of Rs two crore for mental trauma and financial loss to him when a crane boom weighing around 40 tonnes fell on his car while he was travelling with his family.
The counsel was responding to the allegation levelled by a petitioner alleging the Corporation has failed to take action against the erring contractors in the light of the recent incidents.
But the PRO of DMRC,when contacted, clarified the inquiry in the incident is still going on and no decision has been taken so far. “It may be a slip of tongue on part of the counsel,” he said.
The counsel’s submission came on a petition filed by a businessman,Shashidharan, who had contended that safety and security of workers and common men living near the metro project are being compromised as the contractors are not punished for such mishap.
