The agency claimed that evidence indicated that former deputy chief medical officer Y S Sachan, who had died mysteriously while in custody, may have been a co-conspirator in the murder of Arya.

While Arya was murdered as he was taking a morning walk in October 2010 in the Vikas Nagar area,Singh was shot dead in April last year at Gomti Nagar. The HC had directed the CBI to probe the murders of the two CMOs and also irregularities in implementation of the NRHM.

Shukla was remanded in judicial custody till May 21 by Special Judicial Magistrate (CBI) Mirza Jeenat following his arrest. He requested that he be provided security inside the jail.
