‘Drunk’ man threatens policemen with pistol in Rajkot

The police added that no policeman of Jetpur City Police station had any dispute with the man.

AN angadia firm owner allegedly strayed into a police station and threatened policemen on duty with a pistol under the influence of alcohol, in Jetpur town of Rajkot district late on Wednesday night. However, he was overpowered by cops and arrested.

The incident took place at 11:15 pm. Noticing that the man was not in full control of his body, policemen on duty asked him the purpose of his visit. However, Adatiya started abusing them.

When Rajdeep Jhala, an armed Lok Rakshak tried to stop Adatiya from assaulting cops, Adadiya pulled out his pistol and threatened him of dire consequences. But later, other policemen overpowered him, Jetpur police inspector Mahavirsinh Gohil said.

“Adatiya was drunk when he strayed into the police station. He abused and threatened policemen on duty with his pistol. Primary investigation has revealed that he runs an angadia firm and that he also holds an arms licence,”Gohil, who is the investigating officer (IO) of the case, further said.

The PI added that no policeman of Jetpur City Police station had any dispute with Adadiya and that he had simply strayed into the police station in an inebriated state.

The police have booked Adatiya for preventing policemen from discharging their duty, criminal intimidation and flashing weapon in public. He has also been booked under the Arms Act and the Prohibition Act.
