BJP man,the late Bhairon Singh Shekhawat in land scam

Former Rajasthan CM,the late Bhairon Singh Shekhawat (later Vice-President of India) was named in a land scam.

The Rajasthan High Court ruled a prominent hotel and a residential unit are trespassers of a government land which was acquired for developing a central park here.

It held the encroachment continued for decades due to political patronage provided by the then state Chief Minister Bhairon Singh Shekhawat – he went on to become the Vice-President of India.

Acting on a PIL filed by Sanjay Tyagi, the Court ruled Laxmivilas Hotel and Kanak Bhawan, the residential unit, were trespassers of a government land in Rambagh complex,a prime location.

Justice Bhandari delivered the verdict on behalf of a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Jagdish Bhalla and Justice Munishwar Nath.

The Bench held the entire land vested with the state government from the date of notification for acquisition of land in 1973.

The Court brushed aside the contention of owners of Kanak Bhawan and Laxmivilas Hotel that Shekhawat had written a note to exempt these structures from acquisition.

The Court directed concerned authorities to remove all structures encroaching the government land.
