Change your approach, CPM tells Left-backed Kerala MLA day after rebuke from Pinarayi

The CPI(M)’s partner in the ruling LDF alliance, CPI, had also taken up Anvar's allegation that ADGP Ajith Kumar had conspired with the RSS to spoil Thrissur pooram.

A day after Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan took a stand against allegations raised by Left-backed Independent legislator P V Anvar, the CPI(M) on Sunday said the MLA should desist from an approach that “weakens” the party.

On Saturday, Vijayan had categorically said that Anvar’s allegations against the CM’s political secretary, P Sasi, and the functioning of the Home Department were “rejected with contempt” and do not deserve an examination. He also said Anvar lacked “Left culture”.

Taking a cue from Vijayan’s stand, the CPI(M) state secretariat on Sunday expressed its displeasure over Anvar “repeatedly raising allegations against the government and the party through the media”.

“The party cannot agree with his stand. His approach is serving as weapons for rivals to target the government and the party. The party urges Anvar to correct such an approach and desist from any move to weaken the party,” the CPI(M) state secretariat in a statement.

It, however, also said that Anvar’s allegations were under scrutiny from the government and the party.

Anvar, a two-time legislator, had nearly a month ago described the CM’s political secretary as a “total failure” and dubbed him as a “confidant who lands the chief minister in trouble”. He had also alleged that ADGP (law and order) M R Ajith Kumar had connived with the RSS to spoil this year’s Thrissur Pooram, eventually contributing to the BJP’s win in the Lok Sabha election from the Thrissur seat.

Until the CM’s statement on Saturday, the CPI(M) had so far maintained silence regarding Anvar’s allegations, leading to murmurs that he had the backing of a section in the party.

His allegations against police, under Vijayan’s Home Department, were also endorsed by another CPI(M)-backed legislator, K T Jaleel, and former legislator Karat Rasak.

Vijayan’s confidant Sasi is the main link between the party and the government, mainly in matters relating to the Home Department.

The CPI(M)’s partner in the ruling LDF alliance, CPI, had also taken up Anvar’s allegation that ADGP Ajith Kumar had conspired with the RSS to spoil Thrissur pooram.

However, Vijayan’s clean chit to Sasi and distancing from Anvar has served as a clear message to the party as well as its allies, particularly CPI.

After the CPI(M) state secretariat statement, senior party leaders including politburo member A Vijayaraghavan lined up with statements of their own and posts on social media against Anvar.

Vijayan had also rejected the concern raised by CPI over ADGP Ajith Kumar’s meeting with RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosable last year. CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam had said that people have every right to know why the ADGP met the RSS leaders and sought clarity on the issue. But Vijayan on Saturday said the CPI(M) did not have the habit of deputing police officials for political discussions of any sort.

Taking a dig at CPI, Congress state president K Sudhakaran on Sunday said the party should “think whether they should always remain a slave of Vijayan”.
