Chhattisgarh: Seven Maoists killed in Bijapur encounter
A force of around a 1,000 personnel comprised of Bastar Fighters and District Reserve Guards (DRG) led by DSP Rahul Uikey and DSP Ashish Netam and Bastar along with teams of Special Task Force (STF).

At least seven Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces on the inter-district border of Narayanpur and Bijapur districts in Chhattisgarh Thursday afternoon.
Thursday morning, security forces received informatiom about the presence of military platoon number 16 and Indravati area committee members of Maoists on the inter-state border. A joint team security forces set out on an operation from different directions.
A force of around a 1,000 personnel comprised of Bastar Fighters and District Reserve Guards (DRG) led by DSP Rahul Uikey and DSP Ashish Netam and Bastar along with teams of Special Task Force (STF).
The encounter took place in the jurisdiction of Barsur police station in Dantewada just 10 kilometers inside Abujhmad forest area. The operation began around 11 am when Maoists suddenly opened fired at the forces and the intermittent firing continued till evening. As the forces moved forward they found bodies of seven Maoists “dressed in uniform of People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) and also their weapons”.
The encounter spot is 40 kilometers from Dantewada district headquarters.
The last operation took place here around four years ago.
Security forces who earlier entered Naxal heartland Abujhmad from Kanker and Narayanpur districts earlier this year on Thursday entered the area from Dantewada.
Abujhmad, which is spread across Narayanpur, Bijapur and Dantewada, is around 4000 square kilometres wide, which makes it larger than the state of Goa.
On April 16, forces entered Abujmad from Kanker and killed 29 Maoists and then on April 30 they entered the Maad area from Narayanpur and killed another seven Maoists.
With this encounter, total number of Maoists killed so far this year has gone up to 112.
